43rd Northeastern Storm Conference Keynotes

The Lyndon AMS/NWA is excited to announce the Keynote Speakers for the upcoming 43rd Northeastern Storm Conference!

FRIDAY NIGHT SPEAKER: AMANDA CURRAN

 

Amanda Curran joined WSFA 12 News in July 2014 as a Meteorologist. Before moving to the Heart of Dixie, Amanda grew up in New Hampshire and spent four years in Vermont; there she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Sciences and her Associate’s Degree in Television Studies from Lyndon State College in May of 2014. In-between semesters at LSC, Amanda spent two summers interning at her home television station, WMUR-TV.

Recently, Amanda has earned the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation, a professional recognition of the quality of her weather broadcasts. In 2016, Amanda was named first runner up for the Best Weather Anchor award from the Associated Press.

In her free time, Amanda enjoys playing her saxophone, watching football (go Patriots!!) and spending time at the local bark park with her border collie, Tanner.

 

 


SATURDAY NIGHT SPEAKER: DAVID W. TITLEY

 

 

Dr. Titley is a Professor of International Affairs at the Pennsylvania State University. He is the founding director of Penn State’s Center for Solutions to Weather and Climate Risk. After graduating from Penn State, Titley served as a naval officer for 32 years and rose to the rank of Rear Admiral. Dr. Titley’s career included duties as commander of theNaval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, and Oceanographer and Navigator of the Navy.

While serving in the Pentagon, Dr. Titley initiated and led the U.S. Navy’s Task Force on Climate Change. After retiring from the Navy, Dr. Titley served as the Deputy Undersecretary of Commerce for Operations, the chief operating officer position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Dr. Titley serves on numerous advisory boards and National Academies of Science committees. He received an honorary Doctorate degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society.

 

 


SUNDAY MORNING SPEAKER: KATHRYN MOZER

 

 

 

Kathryn Mozer is the GOES-R User Services Coordinator within NOAA/NESDIS/OSPO/SPSD. She helps share, explain, and advocate for all users of the GOES-R satellite data by answering questions, connecting them to the right people for specific information, and giving talks as part of outreach. Prior to joining NOAA, she worked for the GOES-R Program as the GOES-R Proving Ground Coordinator. Kathryn holds a M.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and bachelor’s degrees in Meteorology and Mathematics, respectively, from Lyndon State College.
