Becoming a Member

Welcome to all our club members and prospective members alike!  This is the place you can find any information about becoming a member of our club or finding out the benefits a membership has to offer.

Why become a member of VTSU-Lyndon AMS & NWA?

Becoming a member of the Lyndon State chapter of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association has many benefits.  In addition to the opportunity of receiving a heavily discounted registration to our annual Northeastern Storm Conference, you also:

  • Gain access to discounted registration/transportation to some other meteorological conferences held around the Northeast and beyond.
  • Participate in various club events such as Sector Search, which opens new opportunities for exploring different sectors of the meteorological field.  Other events, such as BBQs and group recreational hikes, seek to foster a stronger community among other club members.  All the while, earn credit towards a discounted Northeastern Storm Conference registration.
  • Promote fellowship within the larger Lyndon State College community by volunteering for the community events we put on for the college (such as our annual Talent Show), also while earning credit to a discounted Northeastern Storm Conference registration.

How do I become a member of VTSU-Lyndon AMS & NWA?

Membership for one school calendar year (corresponding fall and spring semesters) is $10 per person, which can be paid by cash or check to the sitting Treasurer.  These membership fees go directly into making our events and NESC happen. We also accept National AMS memberships – if have signed up for one, provide proof of membership to the Treasurer and your VTSU-Lyndon AMS & NWA membership fee will be waived!

In addition to paying dues, please fill out a short form so we can put you on our email list.

How do I obtain a discounted NESC registration?

In order to become eligible for the discount, you must be an active member of our club. To be an active member, you must:

  1. Pay your dues by October.  Any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
  2. Earn 8 events (5 AMS events and 3 campus events).
    1. AMS can be earned through a variety of different methods, from participating in regular club events to volunteering your time towards some of our community service and fundraising events. Please refer to the Event Calendar or our social media for upcoming events!
    2. We ask club members to participate in campus events to promote engagement in other club and Student Government Association (SGA) activities. To obtain these events, refer to flyers around campus, the Weekly Buzz, and social media!
  3. Attend two-thirds of General Business Meetings (held first Thursday of every month, subject to change).  Excused absences are permitted, but please let a member of the executive board know if you cannot attend.
