NESC Statement Regarding COVID-19

Dear Northeastern Storm Conference attendees,

As the 45th Annual Northeastern Storm Conference approaches this weekend, we have been monitoring the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

While the Center for Disease Control (CDC) says this is a public health concern, the immediate public health risk to the general United States public is considered low.

The health and safety of our attendees is of our highest priorities. We will be providing sanitation products at the conference and cleaning the conference space. We encourage all attendees to take steps to stay healthy.

Here are some actions you can take to prevent the spread of illness from the CDC:

  • Stay home from work or class when you are sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Scrub your hands at least 20 seconds, or roughly twice the length of the “Happy Birthday” song. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue and throw the tissue away after you use it. Alternatively, cough or sneeze into clothing—i.e. your sleeve rather than your bare hands.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs and viruses spread that way.
  • Get sufficient sleep, exercise regularly, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious foods.

We look forward to another safe and healthy year of NESC!

Thank you,

Lillie Farrell

Northeastern Storm Conference Chairperson
